Arizona State University (ASU) and HonorHealth have formalized an agreement designating HonorHealth as the primary clinical affiliate for ASU's new School of Medicine and Advanced Medical Engineering. This collaboration aims to advance healthcare through technology and humanity, training future leaders in medicine and medical engineering.
The affiliation ensures that ASU students will gain hands-on experience at high-quality hospital facilities, a crucial component of medical education. The inaugural class is anticipated for the 2026-27 school year.
ASU President Michael Crow expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are pleased to join with HonorHealth in this important and fundamental step.” He emphasized that HonorHealth will be a key contributor to creating a transformative medical school focused on delivering better health outcomes.
HonorHealth CEO Todd LaPorte echoed this sentiment, stating, “HonorHealth is thrilled to collaborate with ASU, America’s most innovative university, in a partnership that is breaking new ground in professional education and clinical experience for tomorrow’s medical professionals.”
The affiliation will enhance graduate medical education programs at ASU while providing undergraduate students access to clinical and research experiences at HonorHealth facilities. It also includes plans for faculty appointments for participating HonorHealth clinicians.
This agreement extends beyond education into academic, research, and innovation programs within ASU Health. One objective is to bolster the HonorHealth Research Institute through collaboration with ASU’s Knowledge Enterprise.
LaPorte highlighted the potential benefits: “HonorHealth is on the leading edge of translating clinical research into life-changing, patient-centered treatments.”
ASU continues its accreditation process through the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), aiming to admit its first class by 2026-27. Existing partnerships with other affiliates like Phoenix Children’s Hospital remain unaffected by this new agreement.
