Jr. Suns Youth Basketball is returning to Mesa, with the City of Mesa Parks and Recreation Department introducing a co-ed league for children aged 7 to 14 this winter. Additionally, the popular Youth Basketball Kinder Clinic will be available for children aged 5 and 6.

Registration is open for various age divisions within the co-ed youth basketball league: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14. Interested families can register until December 30 or until the league reaches capacity.

"The City of Mesa Parks and Recreation Department offers a great opportunity for youth to develop their skills, learn about sportsmanship, experience teamwork and have fun," said Augie Perez, Mesa Recreation Coordinator. Volunteer coaches play a crucial role in the program by receiving training that enhances their understanding of the sport. "This is our fourth season partnering with the Jr. Suns program and both parents and participants have really enjoyed their experiences with us," added Perez. The reversible replica jerseys are also a highlight among participants.

The registration fees are $90 for Mesa residents and $105 for non-residents per participant in the Jr. Suns Youth Basketball League. For the Kinder Clinic, the cost is $75 for residents and $90 for non-residents. The City provides several scholarships and discounts up to 50 percent off registration fees.

Mesa encourages community involvement in what has been described by parents as "the most organized league we've played in." For more information or to register, visit mesaparks.com or contact Recreation Supervisor Jason Hendrix at 480-644-4452.
