Arizona State University's Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College is undergoing a name change to become the Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation. The change will be implemented by the fall 2025 semester, aligning with the college's mission to advance beyond traditional teacher preparation.

Dean Carole Basile emphasized that the college's commitment extends beyond credentialism and scholasticism. “While our college still sets the pace for teacher preparation, we understand that our commitment to educators and learners should—and does—extend beyond teacher preparation,” Basile stated. She highlighted the need for education systems to "advance equality, propel our economy and sustain democracy."

The renamed college will feature two academic divisions: the Division for Advancing Educator Preparation and the Division for Advancing Education Policy, Practice, and Leadership. These divisions offer various degree programs focusing on educator preparation, educational leadership, learning design, policy, and more.

Basile described how teaching and learning innovation at the college involves integrating degree programs, research activities, and action-oriented centers. “Our college is built so that our degree programs, our research activity and our action-oriented centers and initiatives are mutually reinforcing,” she said.

The college’s mission includes initiatives such as The Next Education Workforce initiative, which collaborates with school systems nationwide to improve educational outcomes through strategic staffing models. Other notable programs include The Center for Whole-Child Education and The Center on Reinventing Public Education.

Despite the name change, current students' academic schedules or course content will not be affected. Prospective students will also experience no changes in application or enrollment processes. Diplomas awarded in May 2025 will still bear the current name of Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College.
