Warren Petersen, a Republican elected to the Arizona State Senate in 2023 representing the state’s 14th Senate District, posted a series of tweets on November 9 and 10 addressing political developments in Arizona and the U.S. Senate.
On November 9, Petersen described his attendance at an event supporting Sheriff Mark Lamb’s congressional campaign. He wrote, “We started a busy Saturday at Sheriff Mark Lamb’s kickoff for Congress. He will fight to defend the Constitution and protect AZ! It was good to meet conservative commentator @Brick_Suit . I appreciate his interest in our state. @sherifflamb1 https://t.co/DeKYZkwCG7”.
Later that day, Petersen commented on legislative procedure in the U.S. Senate, stating, “The purpose of the filibuster is to allow all senators to debate an issue before the vote. Enough debate; time to allow the vote and open the government.”
In a post made on November 10, he criticized Arizona Senators Kelly and Gallego regarding their roles during recent government shutdown negotiations: “A deal has been reached to end the shutdown but AZ Senators Kelly and Gallego were not part of the solution. Truly disappointing to see them hold out when a majority of their voters want them to be bipartisan.”
Petersen began serving as state senator after replacing David Gowan in 2023.
