Warren Petersen, a Republican elected to the Arizona State Senate in 2023 representing the state’s 14th Senate District, posted a series of statements on January 3, 2026, regarding the arrest of Nicolás Maduro and reactions from U.S. senators.

In his first post at 17:09 UTC, Petersen wrote: “Maduro was arrested for violating US federal law. He will be prosecuted for his crimes. Some dems are praising this as they should. Sadly our classless senator is a narco terrorist sympathizer.”

An hour later, at 18:11 UTC, he added: “Even Fetterman gets it. Our classless, narco sympathizing, radical dem senators do not.”

Petersen continued his criticism at 19:02 UTC with another statement: “Maduro murdered thousands, indicted twice on narco-terrorism charges, and has a $50M bounty on his head. Yet our classless Democrat Senators are sympathizing with him and crying over his arrest. Unreal. Prioritizing a brutal thug over justice and the Venezuelan people.

Petersen succeeded David Gowan in the Arizona State Senate following his election in 2023.
