Mesa business owners are feeling the negative economic effects of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The disease, which has infected hundreds of thousands and killed close to 70,000 globally, has salon owner Laurie DeBusk fearing for the future as business at MOZZIE FOX Salon drops amidst public health concerns.

“We’re definitely not really getting any more calls for new clients and it definitely has slowed down quite a bit,” DeBusk said. “Like any salon, we have high standards for sanitation and all of that, but we’ve really amped it up quite a bit, and have really limited the number of people to protect our staff and our client. We’re definitely feeling the crunch right now.”

Mesa is under a state of emergency in which libraries, museums and the Mesa Arts Center are closed and businesses are urged to refrain from gatherings of people to no more than 10.

DeBusk said that she and her neighbors in the shopping center housing MOZZIE FOX agree that the current situation is “probably one of the scariest things as a business owner that you can go through.”
