The City of Mesa’s Office of Economic Development (OED) has been honored by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) with two gold Excellence in Economic Development Awards. OED was recognized at an awards celebration during the IEDC Annual Conference held in Dallas, Texas.

IEDC's Excellence in Economic Development Awards recognize the world's best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year's most influential leaders. Twenty-six award categories honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, and rural communities. Awards are judged by a diverse panel of economic and community developers from around the world, following a nomination process held earlier this year. IEDC receives hundreds of submissions each year. The City of Mesa Office of Economic Development received accolades in the following categories:

“Mesa’s Asian District is a significant economic driver for our city and the best place in the Southwest to explore Asian food and cultural traditions,” Mesa Mayor John Giles said. “I’m proud of our economic development team’s work to brand and elevate our Asian District. The demand for new space and the expansion of Mekong Plaza are a testament to the growth and popularity of that part of our city.”

“I couldn’t be more pleased with the economic development work our team has accomplished,” Mesa Economic Development Director Bill Jabjiniak said. “I’m equally appreciative of our team’s effort to elegantly and effectively communicate those results through a distinctive annual report design.”
