The City of Mesa and the Mesa-East Valley MLK Committee have announced the date for this year's Martin Luther King Parade and Festival. On Monday, January 15, the community is invited to come together and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The theme for this year's event is "Building Bridges: Transforming Communities Together." The festivities will take place in downtown Mesa and will feature Arizona's only MLK parade, presented by Amazon. The parade will start at 11 a.m. and will include participation from various community groups, non-profit organizations, businesses, churches, marching bands, and east valley cities.

In addition to the parade, there will be a MLK Community Festival held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Plaza at Mesa City Center. This festival will offer a wide range of activities and attractions for all ages, including food, vendors, entertainment, and a Kids Unity Corner with activities and crafts.

The annual MLK celebrations in Mesa have a special significance. They were established in 1996 after residents voted to create a citywide holiday recognizing the leadership and impact of Dr. King. Since then, the celebrations have become a cherished tradition in the community.

Mayor John Giles expressed his excitement for the upcoming event, stating, "The Martin Luther King Parade and Festival in Mesa is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and honor the legacy of Dr. King. It is a time for reflection, celebration, and unity."

The parade and festival provide a platform for the community to showcase their commitment to Dr. King's vision of equality and social justice. It serves as a reminder that the work to build bridges and transform communities is an ongoing effort that requires collective action.

Mark Johnson, a representative from the Mesa-East Valley MLK Committee, emphasized the importance of the event, saying, "The Martin Luther King Parade and Festival is not just a celebration, but a call to action. It is a chance for us to come together and continue the work of Dr. King, striving for a more inclusive and equitable society."

The Martin Luther King Parade and Festival in Mesa is a testament to the enduring impact of Dr. King's teachings and principles. It serves as a reminder that his message of love, peace, and justice is as relevant today as it was during the Civil Rights Movement.

So mark your calendars and join the City of Mesa and the Mesa-East Valley MLK Committee on January 15 for a day filled with celebration, reflection, and unity. Let us honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by coming together and working towards a better future for all.
