  • Gilbert now accepts glass bottles, jugs and jars at two drop-off recycling locations.
Gilbert removed glass from its curbside recycling program in 2021 to make the program more sustainable. It was mixing into paper, cardboard, and plastics during processing, diminishing the overall value of Gilbert’s recycling materials.

Glass has the potential to be a desired commodity in the right recycling system and Gilbert hopes these new drop-off containers will provide an efficient way to help reduce the amount of waste our drivers are hauling off to the landfill.

Gilbert’s Solid Waste & Recycling Division will track the return on investment and overall effectiveness of the new glass recycling program over the next few months to determine if the drop-off recycling bins should be a permanent fixture at these locations.

You can help contribute to the success of the program by keeping contamination rates low. Please be sure to adhere to the important information listed above.

Thank you for contributing to waste reduction in Gilbert and helping create a more sustainable future for our community.
