Chandler Councilmember Jane Poston has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) Public Safety and Crime Prevention Federal Advocacy Committee. Poston expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “Chandler is one of the safest cities in America thanks to tremendous community support and police and fire departments who are accredited and recognized as elite providers.”
Poston's appointment to the committee signifies a chance to represent Chandler and advocate for sensible policy solutions on a national level. She highlighted the importance of sharing Chandler's success and working towards effective policy solutions alongside colleagues, members of Congress, and the White House.
As a member of the NLC Committee, Poston will participate in discussions regarding federal support for mental health interventions, integrating mental health professionals into emergency responses, updating 9-1-1 protocols, and providing federal aid for local public safety efforts. The committee will also focus on utilizing advanced technologies and real-time crime centers to enhance public safety.
NLC President Mayor David Sander of Rancho Cordova, CA, emphasized the significance of federal advocacy committees in influencing policymakers in Washington to better understand the challenges faced by cities, towns, and villages at the local level.
Poston will join city leaders from around the country at the upcoming NLC conference to engage in conversations about innovative local strategies to enhance public safety and retain a skilled public safety workforce.
