The City of Mesa has announced its partnership with United Food Bank for the annual Turkey Tuesday event, aimed at collecting frozen turkeys and cash donations. The drive is scheduled for November 19 at the Mesa Convention Center North Parking Lot from 7 a.m. to noon. This year, organizers hope to gather 2,000 turkeys and $20,000 in cash donations to provide holiday meals for those in need.

Mayor John Giles emphasized the importance of community support during the holidays: "Our community's generosity shines extra bright during the holiday season, and the Turkey Tuesday drive is one of the best examples of that spirit in action," he said. Last year's event saw contributions totaling 1,149 turkeys and $34,669 in donations. Desert Financial has pledged $25,000 this year as part of their sponsorship.

Residents are encouraged to participate by donating turkeys or contributing financially at the event or online at www.feedaz.org. City employees will also collect canned goods alongside monetary contributions. Each $31 raised will help provide a turkey for a family this season.

Jason Reed, CEO of United Food Bank, expressed gratitude for continued support: "We are honored to once again be the recipient of the City of Mesa's annual Turkey Tuesday," he stated. He highlighted that United Food Bank assists thousands of Arizona families with traditional holiday meals each year.

This marks the 16th year of collaboration between Mesa and United Food Bank for Turkey Tuesday.
