The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, led by Vice Chairman Thomas Galvin, has approved an additional $1 million in Community Solutions Funding to support the Mesa Youth Creative Agency (MYCA). This funding will enable MYCA to offer creative training and work experience to 40 students per semester.

"While classroom learning is an integral part of education, getting students out into the real world with internships and work-based learning experiences enables them to kickstart their careers with more confidence," said Vice Chairman Thomas Galvin. "Maricopa County is proud to support the Mesa Youth Creative Agency and I am happy to invest District funds in the creative and professional development of high school students across the Mesa Unified School District."

MYCA operates as a business within Mesa Public Schools' Workforce Development Program. It offers students paid internships, workshops for college and career planning, certifications in creative design programs, and assistance with resumes and digital portfolios.

"The Mesa Youth Creative Agency is the first of its kind that empowers our students to explore their passions and gain real-world experience in the creative industry," said Dr. Andi Fourlis, Superintendent of Mesa Public Schools. "This generous $1 million grant from Maricopa County will ensure that MYCA continues to provide unparalleled opportunities for our youth."

In its 15 months of operation, MYCA's first cohort has transitioned successfully into further education or careers after working with partners like the Mesa Arts Center and Phoenix Symphony.

Initially funded by $1,290,000 from American Rescue Plan Act funds through an Intergovernmental Agreement set to expire at the end of 2024, this new investment extends MYCA's agreement until December 31, 2026.
