Bob Willoughby's iconic jazz photographs will be showcased at the Chandler Museum from April 6 to May 26, 2024. Willoughby, known for his candid Hollywood actor photos, captured the essence of jazz musicians in his exhibition "Shutter and Sound: The Jazz Photography of Bob Willoughby." The exhibit features images that reflect the vibrant and intimate world of jazz in the 1950s.
According to Willoughby, "Willoughby not only had a good eye, he had a keen ear, and seemed to know when to snap at an inspired moment." The exhibit includes 50 images of jazz legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, and Frank Sinatra, providing viewers with a glimpse into the dynamic jazz scene of the era.
Visitors, whether seasoned jazz enthusiasts, newcomers to the genre, or photography enthusiasts, are invited to immerse themselves in the captivating world of jazz through Willoughby's lens. The exhibition is in conjunction with Jazz Appreciation Month and the Chandler Jazz Festival, offering related programs for attendees to enjoy.
The Chandler Museum, located at 300 S. Chandler Village Drive, will host the exhibition, open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, providing an accessible opportunity for the community to engage with the rich history of jazz music through photography.
