The Tempe History Society will pay tribute to six Tempe “Legends” at the upcoming annual Tempe Legends Gala Reception on Saturday, April 13. Among the honorees are individuals who have made significant contributions to the community in various ways.

One of the honorees, Hans Olson, a well-known musician in Tempe, will be recognized for his involvement in founding the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame, The Arizona Music Heritage Foundation, and the Arizona Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame. Dr. Ben Furlong, a retired superintendent of Kyrene School District and local historian, will also be honored at the event.

Another esteemed figure to be recognized is Dr. Fred Warren, who made history as the first African American Associate Principal at Phoenix Union High School and later served as Roosevelt School Superintendent.

The event will also pay tribute to historic legends, including Ray Martinez, a WWII veteran who later became the Arizona State Commander of the American Legion’s Thunderbird Post 41. Ladimir “Ladmo” Kwiatkowski, best known for his role on the Wallace and Ladmo Show, will also be honored for his contributions to the longest-running kids television show in broadcast history. Additionally, Eduarda Yates, a passionate advocate for historic preservation and community involvement, will be remembered for her dedication.

The reception, held at the Tempe History Museum plaza, will feature live music, food, drinks, and a recognition ceremony. Tickets for the event are available for $35, with proceeds supporting the Tempe History Society's initiatives in preserving Tempe's history and enhancing museum programming.
