Mesa Public Schools families are gearing up to celebrate Bus Driver Appreciation Week from April 22 to 26. In preparation for the upcoming event, Dr. Andi Fourlis, the Superintendent, highlighted the essential role that bus drivers play in ensuring the safety and well-being of students. She expressed gratitude towards the dedication and commitment of the bus drivers, stating, "Every morning, rain or shine, our bus drivers embark on their routes with one primary goal in mind – to transport our children safely to and from school. They are the first faces our students see in the morning and the last ones they bid farewell to at the end of the day. Their commitment to the well-being and comfort of our students is truly commendable."

As part of the preparations for Bus Driver Appreciation Week, Mesa Public Schools shared guidelines to enhance the experience for everyone involved. The school encouraged students to follow bus procedures and exhibit proper behavior, which includes boarding the bus one person at a time, obeying the driver's instructions, talking quietly, keeping the aisles clear, not eating or drinking, and remaining seated until the bus comes to a complete stop.

Additionally, parents were reminded to support a safe learning environment by demonstrating positive behaviors such as being kind, caring for others, speaking and acting respectfully, and listening actively. The school emphasized the importance of mutual respect and cooperation to ensure a smooth and safe transportation experience for all.

In an effort to bolster safety measures and efficiency, Mesa Public Schools introduced a school bus safety program called SMARTtag. This initiative aims to enhance student safety and provide parents with real-time information about the status of the bus. Currently being piloted at three schools, SMARTtag will be implemented district-wide in the upcoming school year to further improve safety and security for students and drivers.

Expressing appreciation for the invaluable service provided by bus drivers, Dr. Andi Fourlis urged the school community to take a moment to thank and acknowledge the dedication of these essential personnel during Bus Driver Appreciation Week. She reiterated, "Our school communities could not function without their care and hard work."

As Bus Driver Appreciation Week approaches, Mesa Public Schools encourages students, parents, and the community to show gratitude and support for the bus drivers who play a vital role in ensuring the safe transportation of students to and from school.
