Mesa is expanding the operating hours of its Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) Facility to facilitate safer disposal of hazardous waste by residents. Effective July 3, the facility at 2412 N. Center St. will be open from Wednesday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The HHM facility accepts various hazardous materials, including fireworks, paints and solvents, automotive fluids, household cleaners, pesticides and fertilizers, batteries, and electronics. Residents are encouraged to utilize the extended hours for safe disposal of these items. Improper disposal can lead to fires in collection vehicles or waste facilities and pose environmental health risks.

“The extended hours are a direct response to community feedback,” said Solid Waste Director Sheri Collins. “We recognize the need for more flexible drop-off times and are pleased to provide additional hours of service.”

The facility will be closed on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day but will reopen at 7 a.m. on Friday, July 5. For more information on the Household Hazardous Materials Facility and acceptable items, visit mesaaz.gov/hhm.
