Arizona State University's W. P. Carey School of Business has announced the launch of a new Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence in Business (MS-AIB) degree program. This initiative marks the first AI graduate degree offered by a business school in the United States, following ASU's collaboration with OpenAI.

Ohad Kadan, Charles J. Robel Dean and W. P. Carey Distinguished Chair in Business, emphasized the importance of AI as a critical business skill, stating, "There is no doubt that AI is quickly becoming a vital business skill. We are excited to meet the needs of students and employers through our new graduate degree program within our top-ranked information systems department."

The MS-AIB program will be conducted on ASU's Tempe campus and will include an applied curriculum alongside career coaching to prepare graduates for emerging roles across various industries. The program aims to equip leaders with both technical and business skills necessary for designing, deploying, and applying AI in diverse contexts.

Pei-yu Chen, chair of the Department of Information Systems and co-director of the Center for AI and Data Analytics for Business and Society, explained that students will learn about governance, ethics, and principled innovation related to AI. "Students will learn to understand and plan for the implications and possibilities enabled by artificial intelligence," Chen stated.

The program also emphasizes mindful AI practices focusing on ethics, bias, welfare, privacy, trust, cross-functional collaboration, and effective communication regarding AI transformations.

Applications for fall 2024 admission are now open.

In addition to this new graduate program, W. P. Carey offers various opportunities for students to develop their understanding of AI through concentrations within existing MBA programs and a certificate in artificial intelligence in business.

Dan Mazzola, faculty director of the MS-ISM program at W. P. Carey School of Business said: “W. P. Carey has been at the forefront of integrating AI into its academic programs,” highlighting its commitment to leadership in AI education.

The school's offerings aim to ensure graduates are well-prepared for careers in AI-enabled organizations by integrating AI into core educational programs tailored to diverse student needs.
