Arizona State University (ASU) is expanding its educational reach to Spanish-speaking communities worldwide through a new set of Spanish-language learning programs. This initiative aims to break language barriers and democratize education by providing critical skills in fields such as artificial intelligence, immersive technologies, and sustainability.

These programs are introduced during Hispanic Heritage Month, highlighting ASU's growing influence across Latin America. The university seeks to offer learners opportunities to engage with topics crucial for economic innovation and progress.

Latin America has seen a significant increase in demand for technology talent, with the tech hiring market rising by 286% recently. ASU's Spanish-language programs complement existing partnerships in countries like Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico. These collaborations aim to develop workforce-ready skills while addressing local challenges.

“ASU’s global vision is about more than delivering education — it’s about empowering communities and building resilience,” says Maria Anguiano, executive vice president of ASU’s Learning Enterprise. “By expanding our presence in Latin America and Spanish-speaking communities, we’re not only equipping learners with world-class skills but also working hand in hand with local leaders to spark long-term economic development.”

The new suite of courses includes the Digital Intelligence Certificate, Foundational Sustainability Skills and Competencies Certificate, and Big Data and Learning Analytics in the Global Economy Certificate. Future offerings will cover Generative AI in the Workplace and Using Immersive Technologies in Education.

In Argentina, ASU partners with Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE) to train over 2,000 faculty members using AI and VR technologies. Paula Catalina Iglesias from UADE notes that these tools are transforming learner engagement.

In Colombia, ASU collaborates with Colegio de Estudios Superiores de Administración (CESA) to provide advanced innovation training. “Innovation is at the heart of creating a better future,” says Eusebio Scornavacca from ASU.

Mexico sees two key partnerships: one with Tec de Monterrey offering engineering courses for master's students; another focuses on semiconductor industry training through collaboration with Iberoamerican Technology Foundation (ITF) and Santander Universidades.

“Our partnership with ASU equips a new generation of professionals with the global skills needed,” states Adriana Vargas-Martínez from Tec de Monterrey.

Kyle Squires from ASU highlights their efforts in driving semiconductor innovation: “This initiative leverages ASU’s engineering expertise.”

ASU's efforts reflect its broader goal of being a leader in democratizing education while fostering innovation and promoting economic resilience across Latin America.

“We’re just getting started,” Anguiano says. “The potential for cross-border collaboration to drive economic and social progress is immense.”
