Carmen Jimenez, an Adult Education Instructor with the Gilbert Adult Learning Program, was recently recognized by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) for her exceptional contributions to adult education. This recognition is part of ADE's monthly initiative to honor educators who excel in their field.

Jimenez expressed that this acknowledgment reflects not only her individual efforts but also the collaborative work with her colleagues and students. "This recognition is a testament to the collective effort of all those involved in the educational process as it acknowledges not only my individual contributions but also the support and collaboration from my colleagues, students, and the community. Together, we have created an environment where success is possible," she stated.

She attributes her selection for this honor to her commitment to providing high-quality education and creating engaging learning experiences. Her role involves organizing monthly speaking and listening workshops aimed at expanding services for students. She credits teamwork with colleagues such as Delia Flores, lead coordinator, and Sara Zarate Gonzalez, lead ESOL teacher support, for enriching her teaching practices.

Jimenez noted a positive impact on her students following the recognition. She observed increased diligence and focus among them after they celebrated her achievement with a standing ovation. She believes this acknowledgment has inspired them to take pride in their progress.

In a message to her students, Jimenez highlighted their bravery and dedication in returning to education as adults. She emphasized recognizing their perseverance and commitment as true inspirations on this educational journey.

The Gilbert Adult Learning Program offers GED and Adult Basic Education/Adult Secondary Education classes to prepare adults for GED exams or provide further enrichment.
