Four educators from the Kyrene School District have been selected as recipients of the Palo Verde Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers grants. This year, the charity has distributed over $1 million in grant money to 500 teachers across Arizona, with each receiving $2,500 to fulfill a specific wish for their classrooms.
The Kyrene teachers and their respective wishes are as follows:
Michelle Ang from Kyrene Traditional Academy aims to enhance her special education classroom library by acquiring new socioemotional learning books.
Holly Cook at Kyrene de la Estrella plans to use her grant to buy books, reading materials, and whiteboards for her reading intervention students.
Taylor Day of Kyrene de la Colina intends to purchase new drums, xylophones, and sheet music for her music class.
Johanna Segura from Kyrene de la Sierra will obtain science toolkits and sensory items for her science and social studies students.
Each fall, K-12 public or charter school teachers in Arizona can apply online to express a need in their schools or classrooms. The wishes are verified and chosen through a random drawing process.
Since its inception nine years ago, the Fiesta Bowl Wishes for Teachers program has granted $8.25 million to more than 2,600 Arizona teachers, positively affecting over one million children statewide. More details and a complete list of granted wishes can be found at www.fiestabowl.org.
