The City of Mesa has been recognized as a 2024 Global JustServe City at the National League of Cities conference held in Tampa, Florida. This award acknowledges cities worldwide that demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism by fostering volunteer opportunities and acknowledging local volunteers. Mesa is among five cities receiving this recognition this year, alongside Boise, Nampa, and Meridian in Idaho, and Spruce Grove in Alberta, Canada.

Sara Anderson, JustServe Outreach Specialist in Mesa, presented the award to Mayor John Giles and members of the City Council during a recent meeting. She attributed the recognition to their dedication to volunteerism and their example of regularly volunteering with other residents.

Anderson highlighted that "volunteerism thrives here in Mesa" due to "the thousands of volunteers who reach out and lend a hand to their neighbors throughout the year." She added that these efforts make the city "safer, more beautiful, more welcoming, more resilient, more united," ultimately enhancing its quality of life.

Mayor Giles expressed gratitude for the community's volunteer spirit: "Volunteerism is a great cornerstone of our great city and we're grateful for the residents of Mesa who selflessly give their time and talents to make our city stronger." He described the award as "a very meaningful honor."

Mesa is home to over 513,000 people and ranks as the 36th largest city in the United States. It is also the second-largest city within the Phoenix-Mesa metro area. More information about Mesa can be found at mesaaz.gov.
