Maricopa County is taking care of its residents by designating CARES Act funding to be distributed directly to individuals, families and businesses that are struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors voted to reallocate CARES dollars to food banks that have seen increased demand and provide assistance to citizens behind on electric and gas bills. Two other programs that provide assistance to renters and to small businesses have also been expanded.
“Maricopa County has been innovative and dogged in addressing the public health emergency," Clint Hickman, Board of Supervisors chairman, said in a release. "Not only have we implemented new strategies and initiatives which have resulted in a dramatic reduction in the spread of COVID-19 and have lessened the burden on the local health care system, we’ve also been able to assist individuals and businesses facing financial hardship. Now that we better understand what’s working and what’s needed, we can put federal dollars where they can do the most good.”
An additional $40 million has been set aside for the Small Business Relief Program. This program provides grants to organizations that have incurred losses during the coronavirus pandemic. Interested businesses and nonprofits can apply here.
The Crisis Rental Assistance Program has received an additional $6.25 million. Since the program began in July, more than 1,000 households have received $3.3 million in paid assistance. To check eligibility or apply for assistance, click here.
