On June 20, Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Congressman Tom Tiffany (R-WI), and Congressman Matt Rosendale (R-MT) sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner Troy Miller regarding reports that CBP officials are being instructed to extend the operating hours of Northern Border ports of entry up to 24 hours without sufficient manpower to monitor them. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement after sending his letter this afternoon:
“Americans deserve to know why their borders are not being secured,” said Congressman Biggs. “Now that the Biden Administration has dismantled our southern border security, they have moved to dismantle our northern border security.
“It’s unconscionable to hear that the Biden Administration would authorize inadequately supervised or even completely unmanned ports of entries. The American people deserve to understand the extent of this problem. There are numerous recent intelligence reports revealing that the northern border is experiencing an unprecedented surge in illegal border crossings—including by foreign nationals from terror-prone countries.
“There is simply no way to justify an open border policy like this and I look forward to hearing Mr. Mayorkas and Mr. Miller’s rationale behind their current practice.
