For the second consecutive year, small businesses in Mesa have the opportunity to join Mesa's Library Card Sign-Up Month Business Discount Program. The discount program provides free promotion to small businesses through Mesa Public Library's marketing campaign, the potential to attract new customers and encourages people to use their library cards.

To become a partner, a small business will create a special discount or promotion for September, which is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, when Mesa Public Library cardholders show their library cards at their business. Participating merchants will receive a window sign for the program. Businesses that have, or want to create, a reading nook or Little Free Library can request a book donation from the library.

Last year, 42 small businesses joined the business discount program. When surveyed, several gained new customers and all said they would participate again. The program helped increase the library cardholder base. Mesa Public Library added more than 3,200 cardholders in September 2022 and saw an increase of more than 21 percent in the last year. The program's success led to Mesa Public Library recently receiving a public relations award from the American Library Association.

The deadline for small businesses to apply to join the Library Card Sign-Up Month Business Discount Program is Aug. 22.
