CHANDLER, Ariz. — The City of Chandler is gearing up to honor Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month this May. The city is set to pay tribute to the significant contributions of the AAPI community that have played a vital role in shaping Chandler's diverse landscape.
As part of the celebrations, the city's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division will host the Asian American Community Connection event, providing a platform for individuals to engage in meaningful conversations and connect with various organizations. In tandem with the Asian American Community Connection, Chandler Public Library and Chandler Museum are also joining in to offer events and exhibits aimed at educating the community about AAPI culture. The Chandler Museum, located at 300 S. Chandler Village Drive, is currently showcasing the poster exhibit "I Want the Wide American Earth: An Asian Pacific American Story," curated by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service.
Furthermore, teenagers aged 13-17 are invited to partake in the Asian American & Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration at Hamilton High, where attendees can engage in cultural activities and performances that reflect the essence of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage.
The month-long celebrations aim to foster understanding and appreciation of the diverse heritage and remarkable contributions of the AAPI community to Chandler and beyond.
