Chandler, Ariz. – The Chandler Fire Department, in conjunction with Chandler Aquatics and the Chandler Police Department, will be holding a Water Safety Walk on Saturday, May 4 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. to kick off National Water Safety Month and the #WaterYouDoing campaign.
Chandler firefighters are asking residents and groups to join them in a door-to-door campaign through local neighborhoods to help prevent water-related tragedies in the community, as stated by Chandler Fire Department Chief Tom Dwiggins.
Volunteers will gather at Desert Oasis Aquatic Center on the morning of May 4. Chandler Fire Department staff will assign small groups of volunteers to specific Chandler neighborhoods, providing instructions, maps, and door hangers with water safety information. Each route will take two to three hours to complete.
With the Water Walk now in its 15th year, the goal of the #WaterYouDoing campaign, as expressed by the campaign itself, is to educate residents about the importance of water safety for both children and adults, focusing on the "ABCs of Water Safety."
Continuing the educational opportunities, Chandler Aquatics invites families to celebrate National Water Safety Month at Water You Doing Day on May 4 with a Dive-In Movie at Hamilton Aquatic Center. As mentioned by Chandler Aquatics, guests can bring a personal clear inner tube for in-pool seating during the movie.
In addition to the events, May also offers Chandler residents a chance to win a free pool fence and installation in partnership with Chandler Fire, Chandler Aquatics, Chandler Police, and Arizona Pool Fence. Residents can enter to win from May 1 through Aug. 1 at Chandler Pool Fence Giveaway.
