Arizona State University (ASU) has advanced in the QS World University Rankings for 2025, securing the 38th position among U.S. universities, up two spots from its previous ranking. ASU surpasses Dartmouth, Georgetown, and Notre Dame in this year's rankings.
Globally, ASU is ranked 200th out of 1,503 institutions. Within Arizona, it holds the top spot, ahead of the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University. Among U.S. public universities, ASU has moved up to 17th place from 20th last year, surpassing The Ohio State University, University of Maryland, and University of Virginia.
"ASU is thrilled to be ranked No. 38 in the United States by QS World University Rankings for 2025," said Sally Morton, executive vice president of ASU Knowledge Enterprise. "Understanding comparative rankings empowers us to make informed decisions, solve problems effectively and enhance our academic and research programs for students and communities."
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which provides free services, analytics, and insights to the global higher education sector, launched these rankings in 2004. The methodology includes several key indicators: academic reputation, citations per faculty member, employment outcomes, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, international faculty ratio, international research network, international student ratio and sustainability.
ASU achieved its highest scores in international research network (95.7) and sustainability (96.3). This marks the 21st edition of the QS World University Rankings.
