The Chandler City Council has approved the Chandler Police Department's purchase of four additional handheld drug analyzers, funded through a $152,527 grant from the State of Arizona.
The handheld narcotics analyzers, known as TruNarc, can identify more than 530 narcotics and dangerous drugs, as well as cutting agents and prescription medications in a single drug test. These devices can scan directly through plastic or glass for most drug test samples to minimize contamination, reduce exposure, and preserve evidence.
The acquisition of these analyzers will enhance the Chandler Police Department's capabilities in drug identification. The handheld devices are expected to reduce overall requests for laboratory drug analysis and provide greater capacity to analyze drugs.
