Mesa has announced the release of a Request for Proposal (RFP) to enhance its electric vehicle (EV) charging network. The initiative aims to add at least 48 new charging ports with a budget of $14,873,215. This includes a mandatory local match of $2,974,644. The RFP is part of a response to an $11.8 million award from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law's Charging and Fueling (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program.

Currently, Mesa hosts 49 public EV charging stations with 118 ports, serving over 3,200 residents who own electric vehicles. With the CFI grant funds, the city plans to increase charging ports by 40% through strategic deployment based on Mesa's Community Electric Vehicle Action Plan. The enhanced network will feature:

- Four Neighborhood Charging Hubs with Level 2 and DCFC ports (16 ports at 19kW, 8 ports at 50-60kW), including e-bike/e-scooter charging.

- Two Fast Charging Hubs with eight DCFC ports at 150-180kW.

- Two Public Fleet Charging Hubs with eight DCFC ports at both 150-180kW and 50-60kW.

The proposal requires all sites to provide safe public access around the clock, solar canopies for shade and power generation, and ADA accessibility features.

Proposals are due by November 12 at 3 p.m., Arizona Time. A virtual pre-proposal conference is scheduled for October 22 for those interested in more information. Details can be found by visiting https://vendor.mesaaz.gov/ and referencing proposal #2025073.
