The Chandler Fire Department has been awarded the Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) designation by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This recognition is given to organizations that have trained at least 80% of their public-facing team members to better communicate with and respond to individuals with autism and sensory sensitivities.

Chandler Fire Chief Tom Dwiggins stated, "Our mission has always been to protect and serve every resident with care and compassion. Earning the Certified Autism Center designation strengthens our ability to treat patients with autism and respond during emergencies. The training that we’ve undergone will ensure that people feel safe and supported during critical moments."

The specialized training equips Chandler Fire Department personnel with knowledge and strategies to address sensory triggers, communication differences, and tailored approaches for various scenarios. This ensures enhanced safety and comfort during interventions for autistic individuals and their families, promoting inclusivity within the community.

Myron Pincomb, IBCCES board chairman, remarked, “Chandler Fire Department’s commitment to specialized training reflects their commitment and dedication to providing the best care for autistic individuals and ensuring they can respond appropriately in critical and emergency situations. We are thrilled to partner with the Chandler Fire Department and recognize them as a Certified Autism Center™.”

Since 2001, IBCCES has led in autism, neurodiversity, and cognitive disorder training globally. It offers programs specifically designed for police and fire departments so staff can provide knowledgeable accommodations for this growing but underserved community segment.

Chandler Fire is recognized nationally for its service excellence. It holds accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International along with an Insurance Services Office Class 1 distinction. The department provides comprehensive services including fire suppression, EMS, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, crisis intervention, fire prevention bureau operations, EMS training divisions support among others under Chief Tom Dwiggins' leadership.

IBCCES offers certifications empowering professionals across fields globally in autism-related areas.
