Ryan Fifield, a junior at Gilbert High School, has been awarded the Silver Award at the J.F. Lincoln Foundation’s National Competition in the High School Welding Project Division. This accolade places him among the top three high school welding students in the United States.

Fifield's project for the competition was a John Deere-themed swing set that impressed judges with its design and craftsmanship. His work earned him national recognition, a $750 cash prize, and two welding machines to support his education. The swing set was later auctioned at the Maricopa County Fair Agriculture Mechanics Show for $1,800.

Fifield is currently enrolled in Gilbert High’s Agriculture Engineering and Fabrication II course as part of their AgriScience Career and Technical Education program. His skills in designing and fabricating were key to his success in creating the swing set.

Looking to the future, Ryan plans to pursue aerospace engineering, using his welding and fabrication skills as a foundation for his career goals.
