International Education Week is set to take place from November 18-22, and Rio Salado College has organized a series of events to mark the occasion. This annual event is a collaborative effort by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, aimed at promoting international education and cultural exchange.
At Rio Salado College, the week will feature several activities designed to provide global perspectives without leaving campus.
On Monday, November 18, "Stories Across Borders: Exploring Cultural Identities Together" will be held via Google Meet. The workshop encourages participants to share their cultural identities and stories, fostering an inclusive environment for dialogue and reflection. Reina Ferrufino, DEIB Program Manager at Rio Salado, will present this session.
Tuesday's event, "Cafe Around the World," offers attendees a chance to taste international treats prepared by the Café staff at Rio. Additionally, there will be a holiday tamales-making workshop on December 7 and 14.
Wednesday includes two sessions via Google Meet. Rick Vaughn, Ph.D., Faculty Chair for STEM Initiatives at Rio Salado College, will discuss vocational training programs in Spain's Basque Country and Germany based on his recent visit there. Another session titled "Race and Ethnicity Abroad: Overcoming Obstacles to Create a Global Mindset" will be presented by Dr. Lamont Slater, Faculty Chair Humanities, Religious Studies & Philosophy at Rio Salado College.
Throughout the week, the Café at Rio will offer an international lunch menu for all attendees.
The college also encourages those interested in learning abroad to explore opportunities through past stories highlighting the benefits of global engagement.
