Chandler Councilmember Jane Poston has been reappointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) Public Safety and Crime Prevention Federal Advocacy Committee. She will serve a one-year term, providing strategic direction and guidance for the committee's federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities.
Councilmember Poston expressed her commitment to addressing public safety issues, stating, "Work on this committee is advocating for policy action that addresses issues our public safety professionals are facing in Chandler and around the country." She emphasized the importance of sharing Chandler's successes with policymakers in Congress and federal agencies to pursue sensible solutions.
Over the past year, the NLC committee focused on advocating for federal policies aimed at recruiting, training, and retaining future public safety professionals. The committee also addressed policies related to mental health, substance use, and mass shootings.
The increasing use of unmanned aircraft systems by public safety agencies was another significant topic. Drones are being utilized for emergency response, incident assessments, and search and rescue missions. Advocacy efforts concerning this technology were part of the committee's focus.
