Chandler residents are invited to participate in the 17th annual Chandler Family Bike Ride on April 5. The event, led by Mayor Kevin Hartke, will take place at Chandler’s Park & Ride lot, located at 2100 S. Hamilton St., on the southwest corner of Germann and Hamilton streets in Tumbleweed Park. This year's theme is neon, encouraging participants to wear bright cycling attire.
The bike ride covers a distance of 7.8 miles along the scenic Paseo Trail and is part of Valley Bike Month celebrations in April. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., with the ride starting promptly at 8:30 a.m. Riders will be guided by the Chandler Police Bike Team from the starting point to Tibshraeny Park and back. Participants can enjoy a free Kona Ice upon returning.
Participants will receive a complimentary t-shirt while supplies last. Pre-ride activities include bike and body decorating stations and free face painting. Community partner vendor tables will provide information on bicycle safety and transit services.
Mayor Hartke expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “I am looking forward to this year’s annual Family Bike Ride. It is always such a fun event, and a great way to join with others who share in the love of cycling. It also gives everyone the opportunity to experience the Paseo Trail, a key connector for cyclists in our community.”
Pre-registration online is required for all participants. Safety measures include mandatory helmet use, adherence to traffic laws, and staying hydrated during the ride.
For those unable to attend or preferring an individual setting, there is an option for a virtual bike event from April 5 through April 13. Virtual participants who pre-register will also receive a free t-shirt while supplies last.
The Chandler Family Bike Ride is organized by the city’s Transportation Policy Division with support from various departments and partners including SRP, Global Bikes, Chandler SHEELS, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and Valley Metro.
