The City of Chandler's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division, in partnership with its Community Services and Police departments, is organizing a free screening of the documentary "In A Different Key." The event will be held on Sunday, March 9, at 1 p.m. at the Chandler Center for the Arts located at 250 N. Arizona Ave.
"In A Different Key" is based on a Pulitzer Prize-nominated book by journalists Caren Zucker and John Donvan. The film delves into autism through the story of a mother searching for the first person diagnosed with the condition. It covers themes such as love, difference, and belonging while revealing both cruelty and kindness throughout history. The documentary aims to foster hope that communities can become more supportive of individuals on the spectrum. It is recommended for viewers aged 15 and older due to sensitive content.
Attendance is free but requires online registration at In A Different Key due to limited space. Doors open at 1 p.m., allowing attendees to interact with local organizations focused on supporting individuals with disabilities and their families.
The screening begins at 2 p.m., lasting 98 minutes, followed by a panel discussion offering insights into autism and local support resources. For further details about participating organizations with resource tables at the event, visit In A Different Key.
