A bill aimed at providing property tax exemptions for 100% service-disabled veterans and their surviving spouses has been approved by the Arizona House of Representatives. Sponsored by House Majority Leader Michael Carbone, the legislation, known as HB2672, received strong bipartisan support.
Majority Leader Carbone emphasized the importance of the bill, stating, "Our veterans risk everything to defend our freedoms, and for those with total service-connected disabilities, that sacrifice doesn’t end when they return home." He added that the bill ensures Arizona honors these individuals by eliminating property taxes on their homes.
Currently, disabled veterans in Arizona receive only a partial property tax exemption with strict limits based on income and assessment values. HB2672 seeks to remove these restrictions, offering full exemption for homes owned by veterans rated 100% disabled due to service-related injuries. The exemption would also apply to surviving spouses who remain in the home and do not remarry.
The legislation aligns with the House Majority Plan by supporting economic strength through tax relief for veterans and their families. It is now headed to the Senate for further consideration.
Michael Carbone represents Legislative District 25 in Arizona, which includes parts of Yuma, Maricopa, and La Paz Counties. He serves as House Majority Leader and can be followed on X at @MichaelCarbone.
