Susan Sly, a startup founder with expertise in large-scale computer systems, has launched an initiative to address menopause-related health concerns through artificial intelligence. In 2023, she founded ThePause.AI, a Phoenix-based AI startup dedicated to supporting women during menopause. "Globally, menopause is the only inevitable health condition every woman will face," Sly states.
The company’s flagship product is Harmoni, a subscription-based mobile application that aids women by tracking symptoms and providing personalized health recommendations. The app uses AI powered by large language models to engage users in supportive chats and assist with meal planning. It also syncs with wearable devices for more accurate insights.
Nate Kelly, an Arizona State University alumnus and data scientist, joined ThePause.AI as its first hire. Kelly emphasizes the potential of predictive models within the app: “We’re collecting important data... Can we predict if you’re going to have a hot flash episode tonight?” His background at ASU's Fulton Schools of Engineering contributed significantly to his role at the startup.
Earlier this month, ThePause.AI was selected for the Mayo Clinic and ASU MedTech Accelerator program. This opportunity connects innovators in healthcare with resources for commercialization and regulatory navigation.
Sly plans to continue expanding her team with graduates from ASU's Fulton Schools due to their entrepreneurial spirit and focus on advancement. She highlights ongoing developments within the company: “We’re going to keep talking, keep listening and keep working,” Sly says, “until women have the support they need and deserve.”
