A new report conducted by TRIP, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization, concluded that Phoenix Valley drivers faced an estimated $2,009 per year over inadequate road conditions.
These costs were a collection of operating costs including accelerated depreciation, tire wear, additional repair costs, vehicular accidents, and congestion-related delays.
TRIP is a nonprofit organization that researches transportation data across the United States. According to Phoenix Biz Journals, TRIP's report states that 26% of the Phoenix area's local and state-maintained roads were in poor condition. About 35% of the area was reported as being in mediocre condition.
The report attributed these costs to inadequate and out-of-date road conditions. However, it also mentioned traffic accidents in its assessment. A total of 4,635 deaths were reported in the area due to road accidents from 2014 to 2018, marking Arizona as the nation's fourth highest in road fatalities.
