With the economic crisis felt across the country, some cities are trying to help businesses that are affected by the crisis to stay open.

The City of Tempe has launched a "buy now save local" program where customers can buy vouchers and gift cards from businesses. The money from these sales will go to the businesses now, and once the economy improves, customers can purchase anything.

Mark Mitchell, the Mayor of Tempe City, said that the move is an attempt to preserve the local business ecosystem.

Speaking to KJZZ, Mitchell said that these businesses function as the soul of the city, and by preserving them, they are preserving the city’s identity. The program also gives people opportunities to explore things that will lighten their moods and spirits.

According to Mitchell, the program will help keep these businesses afloat, which will help to keep the revenue flowing in the city and employment on the table.
