Recap of Chandler City Council Meetings on Jan. 24 and 27, 2022

City of Chandler issued the following annoucement on Jan. 28.

The Chandler City Council met at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, taking action on a total of 29 agenda items. Meeting highlights included:

  • Authorized the City of Chandler to enter into an agreement with the State of Arizona for the Loop 101 and 202 Freeway Waterline and Sewer Rehabilitation Project in the amount of $8,000,000. Also authorized the City Manager to take actions on behalf of the City of Chandler to carry out the intent of the agreement.
  • Award an agreement for design services to J2 Engineering & Environmental Design for Arrowhead Meadows Park tennis and pickleball court replacement in an amount not to exceed $50,445.
  • Awarded a contract to DNG Construction for Homestead North Park, in an amount not to exceed $3,687,179.05.
  • Awarded a professional services agreement for post-design services to Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. for Homestead North Park, in an amount not to exceed $36,635.
  • Awarded three agreements with Caliente Construction for improvements to aquatic facilities:
    • Arrowhead, Folley and Nozomi Aquatic Centers safety improvements, not to exceed $86,614.33 
    • Hamilton Aquatic Center safety improvements, trench drain replacement, not to exceed $83,947.43
    • Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center ultraviolent system replacement, not to exceed $158,401.71
  • Introduced and tentatively adopted an ordinance approving the annexation of approximately 0.27 acres and initial City zoning, north of the northeast corner of Arizona Avenue and Germann Rd. 
  • Introduced and tentatively adopted an ordinance approving Arizona Avenue Commerce Center, rezoning approximately 16.6 acres to a planned area development for commercial, office, business park and light industrial uses, subject to conditions as recommended by Planning and Zoning Commission. Approved the preliminary development plan and preliminary plat for the Arizona Avenue Commerce Center as well. 
  • Approved the use permit for ImprovMania Entertainment, 51 E. Boston St., requesting a Series 7 beer and wine Bar license and an entertainment use permit for acoustic and amplified live bands, DJ, and speakers with background music indoors and on an outdoor patio.
  • Approved the used permit for Verizon Pho Twelve Oaks to modify and relocate and existing wireless facility. 
  • Approved an entertainment use permit for The Forum for expansion of premises for a Series 6 bar license and entertainment use permit for live music inside and on an outdoor patio located at 2301 S. Stearman Dr. 
  • Approve an entertainment use permit for Celoni Hospitality, DBA Recreo, located at 28 S. San Marcos Pl.
  • Approved a resolution for an intergovernmental agreement with the Town of Guadalupe allowing Chandler Fire Department to provide firefighting and emergency medical training to Guadalupe Fire Department. 
  • Approved the purchase of Tenable software support in an amount not to exceed $94,530.
  • Authorized an agreement between the City of Chandler and Off Duty Management, Inc. to provide management and administrative Services to the Police Department's Extra Duty Program and Assignments.
  • Approved an agreement for design services to Arrington Watkins Architects for police work area and storage renovation design services, in an amount not to exceed $102,600.
  • Approved the purchase of drywell maintenance, installation and repair services from Torrent Resources in an amount not to exceed $273,420.
  • Awarded a professional services agreement to Dibble & Associates Consulting Engineers for the Lindsay Road Water Main Replacement Design Services, in an amount not to exceed $28,872 for a revised contract amount not to exceed $86,114. 
  • Awarded a construction contract to B&F Contracting for traffic signal installation at Warner Rd. and Nevada St. in an amount not to exceed $594,681.82.
  • Authorized the City of Chandler to enter into an agreement to share costs for the feasibility study of Bartlett Dam modification alternatives with other participating entities and the Salt River Agricultural Improvement and Power District in an amount not to exceed $400,000.
  • Awarded a professional services agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates for the Ray Rd. and Dobson Rd. intersection improvements study consultant services in an amount not to exceed $167,130.
  • Approved the purchase of water quality monitoring equipment, service and parts from Hach Company in the amount of $600,000 for a two-year term, Feb. 1, 2022 – Jan. 31, 2024. 
  • Approved the purchase of arsenic removal filter media from Evoqua Water Technologies in an amount not to exceed $220,000.
  • Authorized project agreement no. 5 under the Public Infrastructure Master Agreement dated May 24, 2019, between the City of Chandler and Intel Corporation for the construction of improvements to the City's Airport Water Reclamation and Ocotillo Water Reclamation facilities needed to serve Intel's campus at 4500 S. Dobson Rd.
  • Accepted the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and related financial audit reports submitted by Heinfeld, Meech & Co., P.C. for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021.  

    During a Study Session held on Monday, Jan. 24, the Mayor and City Council honored Kurt Hoffman for his 20 years of service in the Community Services department. Deb Stapleton, Assistant City Manager, is retiring and was honored by the City Council and City Manager for her 23 years of service to the City of Chandler. Stapleton previously served as the City’s Human Resources Director.

    The next meeting of the Chandler City Council will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7. Council meetings are aired live, as well as replayed on the Chandler Channel - Cable Channel 11, streamed online at chandleraz.gov/video and on YouTube at youtube.com/cityofchandler.
