The City of Tempe will reopen the eastbound U.S. 60 ramp to southbound Loop 101 and the eastbound U.S. 60 off-ramp at McClintock Drive overnight tonight, several days ahead of schedule. The ramps will open to traffic before morning rush hour Thursday.
The ramps were closed just over two weeks ago to allow crews to fully repair the water transmission line that burst last May, flooding U.S. 60.
The repair project still requires some lane closures on McClintock Drive near U.S. 60. Those lane restrictions are anticipated to be lifted by approximately Oct. 28.
“Our team came together to quickly and safely repair U.S. 60 when it burst, and they have proven yet again that they are able to work together to keep traffic flowing now,” said Tempe Mayor Corey Woods. “I’m proud of the effort from our staff, our contractors and our partners like the Arizona Department of Transportation.”
This should conclude all repair work associated with the May 7 water transmission line break, when a city water transmission line burst, causing flooding and damage to U.S. 60 in both directions between McClintock Drive and Loop 101. The 50-year-old pipe, which runs north and south of the U.S. 60, had been expected to last 75 years. Arizona Department of Transportation and City of Tempe experts worked together to repair the damage as quickly as possible and get motorists back on the freeway.
