The Gilbert Police Department arrested a suspect Monday evening in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Jacob Carlson that occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, June 18th, 2023. Due to the suspect being a juvenile, the name will not be released at this time.
Gilbert Police Officers had responded to the 100 block of West Moore Avenue in relation to a shooting call, where Carlson was found shot in the chest and upper torso after an altercation at a small house party. Carlson was transported to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.
The swift efforts of Gilbert PD's Criminal Investigation Division led to the arrest of the teen after extensive analysis of collected evidence. The teen was booked as a juvenile at Durango Juvenile Detention Facility for the following charges:

A.R.S. § 13-3102(A)(1)(a) Misconduct Involving Weapons
A.R.S. § 13-3102(A)(2) Misconduct Involving Weapons
A.R.S. § 13-3107(A) Unlawful Discharge of Firearms
A.R.S. § 13-1201(A)Endangerment (3 counts)
A.R.S. § 13-1204(A)(2) Aggravated Assault
A.R.S. § 13-1508(A) Burglary in the 1st Degree
We would like to remind the public that charged offenses are merely allegations. All defendants are presumed innocent until pleading guilty or being found guilty.
June 19 Update - The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Jacob Carlson.
Original Release - On June 18 at approximately 12:06 AM, Gilbert PD responded to a shooting call at the 100 block of West Moore Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found an 18-year-old male shot in the chest and upper torso and began life-saving measures. The male was shot after an altercation in the backyard of a small house party.
The male was transported to the hospital where he later died of his injuries. The name of the victim is not being released at the moment.
This is an isolated incident and there are no other injuries reported at the time of this notice.
