Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) has called for overtime pay for Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Agents to be included in the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act. In a letter addressed to Mike Rogers (R-AL), Chairman of the House Committee on Armed Services (HASC), Congressman Biggs highlighted the importance of fair compensation for CBP Agents who go above and beyond the call of duty.

The specific provision that Congressman Biggs is advocating for is Section 11133 of the Senate version of the NDAA. This provision aims to reinstate a policy that was in place before the Obama Administration removed it. It would also align CBP overtime levels with those of similar agencies, such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In his letter, Congressman Biggs expressed his support for the hardworking and dedicated CBP Agents, stating, "Our Customs and Border Patrol agents are some of the bravest and hardest working individuals America has to offer." He further criticized the current administration for its handling of the border crisis, which has led to increased demands on CBP Agents and longer working hours.

Congressman Biggs emphasized the need for fair compensation for CBP Agents, stating, "These agents should, without question, be fairly compensated for the extra hours they serve protecting our national security." He expressed gratitude for the support of his colleagues and looked forward to Chairman Rogers' swift response.

The letter, which was also signed by several other representatives, including Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) and Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR), can be read in its entirety [here](link to the letter).

Congressman Biggs's efforts aim to ensure that CBP Agents receive the recognition and compensation they deserve for their dedication and service to the country. As discussions continue in the NDAA conference committee, it remains to be seen whether Section 11133 will be included in the final text of the FY24 NDAA.
