Tempe, Arizona - The "Truth in Taxation" notification required by state law addresses only the primary property tax levy and rate used for general city services. The City also has a secondary property tax used to fund capital improvements. Only the amount necessary to make annual payments on voter-authorized bonds will be collected. Together, the primary and secondary levies form the City's overall property taxes.

The overall City property tax rate will slightly increase in fiscal year 2024/25 from $2.4065 to $2.4291 per $100 of assessed value. The overall levy on existing properties will increase by 3.3%. The property tax paid to the City is approximately 22% of the total property tax bill, with the majority going to school districts and the county.

The "Truth in Taxation" notification will be published in the Arizona Republic on May 22, 2024, and May 28, 2024.

If you have questions or comments regarding Tempe's property taxes, please contact the City of Tempe Municipal Budget Office at budget@tempe.gov or 480-350-8505.

Truth in Taxation Hearing Notice of Tax Increase

In compliance with section 42-17107, Arizona Revised Statutes, the City of Tempe is notifying its property taxpayers of its intention to raise primary property taxes over last year's level. The City of Tempe is proposing an increase in primary property taxes of $437,311 or 2.0%.

For example, the proposed tax increase will cause the City of Tempe's primary property taxes on a $100,000 home to be $87.47. Without the proposed tax increase, the total taxes that would have been owed on a $100,000 home would have been $85.75.

The proposed increase is exclusive of increased primary property taxes received from new construction. The increase is also exclusive of any changes that may occur from property tax levies for voter-approved bonded indebtedness or budget and tax overrides.

All interested citizens are invited to attend the public hearing on the tax increase scheduled for June 6, 2024 at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 31 E. Fifth St. Visit tempe.gov/clerk for details.
