Mesa Public Schools is now recognizing an elementary and secondary spotlight school at the second board meeting of each month. Each school will highlight a student, certified staff member, and classified staff member. Dobson High School was recognized as the secondary spotlight school for September 2024. Below are comments from principal Gabbi Buckley on each of the honorees.

Tremaine Turner, Outstanding Student: Tremaine, a junior at Dobson, shines as an all-around leader. He’s an active member of our Dobson Leadership Athletic Council, a starting player on the varsity basketball team, a dedicated partner for Unified Sports, and a member of the track team. As well, his football peers elected him a captain of this year’s varsity football team.

Though humble in nature, Tremaine’s leadership makes a bold impact. Whether it's staying after events to clean up or helping our equipment manager, he’s always willing to lend a hand. Even though he never seeks the spotlight, he truly deserves this recognition. His teachers and coaches praise him for being dedicated, driven, and kind-hearted. We couldn’t be prouder to call him a Dobson Mustang.

Henry Bribiescas, Outstanding Educator: Henry Bribiescas is a truly unique educator—one who loves teaching Algebra I and coaches multiple sports including badminton, softball, and girls basketball. He’s a celebrated coach taking our girls basketball team to the playoffs every year he’s been here and leading them to the 6A state championship game in 2023.

What sets him apart is his commitment to his athletes’ growth beyond basketball. He encourages his players to participate in multiple sports even if it impacts his program because he understands the value of developing well-rounded student-athletes here at Dobson.

In the classroom Mr. Bribiescas builds strong relationships with his students and has the ability to make freshmen excited about learning math. His students and colleagues describe him as kind generous caring and always ready to help.

Kelli Booth secretary to assistant principals Jacob Fendley and Christina Sweador Outstanding Classified Staff Member

Kelli Booth is one of the friendliest faces at Dobson. She started as our Restorative Practices Center Coordinator then moved on to become our Bookstore Manager. Her talents didn’t go unnoticed and soon Mr Fendley and Ms Sweador brought her on as their secretary.

We’re highlighting Kelli tonight because of her consistently positive attitude and her willingness to help anyone even when it’s beyond her job description She’s a quick learner quick-witted and always keeps us smiling Kelli and her family are huge supporters of the Dobson community attending everything from the fall play to basketball playoffs and a lot of stuff in-between

She loves her family Disneyland a good Starbucks cup drop and most of all being a Mustang
