Campo Verde High School (CVHS) and Gilbert Classical Academy (GCA) have received national recognition for their achievements in Advanced Placement (AP) programs. The College Board has awarded both institutions the AP Honor Roll recognition, with GCA also earning the AP Access Platinum Award for its commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.
To qualify for the AP Honor Roll, schools must meet specific criteria. These include ensuring that at least 40% of the graduating class takes at least one AP exam, with 25% scoring 3 or higher on at least one exam. Additionally, at least 2% of graduates must take five or more AP exams, including one during 9th or 10th grade.
The AP Access Award honors schools committed to providing equitable access to advanced coursework. To earn this award, the percentage of underrepresented minority and/or low-income students taking AP Exams must reflect the school's overall demographics.
In Gilbert Public Schools over the past year, 354 students earned AP Scholar awards. Among them, 167 were recognized as AP Scholars with Honor for achieving an average score of at least 3.25 on all exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams. Additionally, 220 students were named AP Scholars with Distinction for averaging a score of at least 3.5 on all exams taken and scoring 3 or higher on five or more exams. Furthermore, 29 students earned AP Capstone diplomas.
"The AP Scholar awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students," said Marcie Taylor, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education. "We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements and the bright futures they have ahead of them."
