Scholarships are playing a crucial role in supporting students at Rio Salado College as they pursue their academic and career goals. The next application cycle for fall 2025 scholarships opens on March 1, 2025, offering numerous opportunities through the Maricopa Community Colleges' streamlined application process.

Kelsi Barker, a recipient of the Thor Family Endowed Scholarship, is working towards an associate degree in psychology while balancing her responsibilities as a single mother of three and a full-time job. Barker shared, “This scholarship opportunity means so much to me.” She expressed gratitude for the financial support that eases her monthly expenses and allows her to focus on her studies. Barker aims to continue her education with a bachelor's degree and eventually become a licensed therapist, driven by her passion for mental health.

Darren Lim, awarded the Hazel Davis Literacy Legacy Scholarship, is studying computer science. He appreciates the flexibility of online classes at Rio Salado College. Lim explained how unexpected financial challenges made it difficult to cover tuition and living costs: “Receiving this scholarship has made it easier for me to focus on my studies without the constant worry about finances.” His goal is to transfer to Arizona State University and specialize in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Alyssa Maldonado received the Dr. Harry E. Whyte Memorial Scholarship while enrolled in Rio Salado’s dental hygiene program. The scholarship helped her afford state board exams after she faced financial difficulties due to not being able to work during her intensive full-time program. Maldonado said, “Receiving a scholarship allowed me to finish my career while also providing for my daughter as a single mother.” She plans to work in pediatric dentistry after graduation.

Further details about the Fall 2025 scholarships will be available on the Maricopa Community College District Foundation website.
