SCALES TECHNOLOGY ACADEMY: Virtual Learning Update - December 17, 2020

Virtual

Scales Technology Academy issued the following announcement on Dec. 17

Keeping the health, safety and wellbeing of our students and staff in mind, Tempe Elementary returned to virtual learning these past few weeks due to the dramatic increase in our district COVID-19 metrics. As of December 17, our metrics have increased at an alarming rate from last week with all three metrics falling in the Substantial Risk range, which requires us to continue in our Virtual Learning Model when we return from Winter Break.

  • January 4, 2021-January 22, 2021–100% Virtual Learning with on-site support. Students who are currently enrolled in on-site support will continue in on-site learning at their home school until in-person learning begins again. This includes students receiving special education services through their IEP.
  • Beginning January 4, 2021, there will be no in-person instruction or related services for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) due to the metrics. In place of our in-person services your child will receive highly effective instructional support remotely from their special education teacher and related service providers. This instruction will be aligned to their IEP and will continue until we determine based on the metrics it is safe for our students and staff to return in-person.
  • January 25, 2021– Begin 100% in-person instruction if benchmarks are met. Students will have the option to continue virtual learning.
As many of you already know, Maricopa County updates the metrics for returning to school every Thursday. We are still under a “virtual only with on-site support” recommendation until we have maintained or improved our current benchmarks for two weeks or more. We will continue to watch the Maricopa County Health Department metrics and guidance weekly and make adjustments if necessary.

We are so very sorry that COVID-19 has impacted our children, our staff, and our community in such a devastating way, and hope that through your efforts and ours that we are saving lives.
