Applications Open June 21 for Gilbert Fire & Rescue’s First Cadet Program

Gilbert, Ariz. - The Gilbert Fire & Rescue Department (GFRD) is gearing up to launch its first cadet program with applications opening on Wednesday, June 21.

The goal of this new program is to develop a group of highly qualified fire recruit candidates through ongoing mentorship, hands-on training, exposure to fire service culture, physical fitness, interview preparation, and networking with like-minded peers. 

“The Gilbert Fire & Rescue Department is excited to launch our first Fire Cadet Program to help individuals navigate the path to a career in fire and emergency medical services,” said Gilbert Fire & Rescue Chief Rob Duggan. “This program will provide a unique opportunity for individuals to get exposed to the ins and outs of working with GFRD, and we hope that it will help us build a pipeline of talent for years to come.”

Potential candidates for GFRD’s Cadet Program must meet the following criteria:

Cadets will gain knowledge and build one-on-one relationships with sworn firefighters and participate in a variety of firefighter skill trainings, including:

  • Working in Turn Outs
  • Using SCBA's
  • Hose Management
  • Search & Rescue 
  • Vehicle Extrication
The trainings will be held at the Gilbert Public Safety Training Facility, located at 6860 S. Power Road. The facility is on a 50-acre multi-use joint police and fire training facility designed to meet the current and future specialized training needs of Gilbert’s public safety personnel.
