The Downtown Mesa Association, a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the beneficial economic growth and business development of the downtown area, is excited to announce that Terry Madeksza will become the president and executive director beginning Jan. 2024. Madeksza succeeds Nancy Hormann, who served as president since 2020 and has plans to retire.
“Nancy is a force of nature whose career mission has been attracting and empowering locally owned businesses to create dynamic and successful main streets in Arizona and across the country," said City Manager Chris Brady. "In Mesa, we have been fortunate to witness the power of Nancy’s zeal and determination to help our businesses survive a pandemic and thrive in the months after – bringing over 25 new locally-owned businesses to our downtown. During her three-year tenure, Nancy embraced our community to transform downtown Mesa into a craft brewery and foodie destination. And while anchored by our uniquely local offerings, she leaves Downtown Mesa Association well-poised to charge into a successful future. Thank you, Nancy, for what you have done for Downtown Mesa. Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement.”
As the new executive director Madeksza will continue the important work of creating a hospitable and welcoming environment for businesses, residents, investors, and visitors, while enhancing downtown events and programming creating more opportunities for people to come together.“The executive committee and I are thrilled to have Terry bring her expertise to Downtown Mesa,” said Tim Sprague, chair of the Downtown Mesa Association. “Having an experienced leader take over for Nancy will help continue our initiatives to bring growth and vibrancy.”Madeksza received her Bachelor of Science from American University. She has been in the downtown management industry for more than 25 years, most recently serving as the executive director in Flagstaff for eight years. Before Flagstaff, Madeksza worked for Downtown Phoenix, Inc. for 16 years.“I am honored to step into this new role with Downtown Mesa,” said Madeksza. “I am excited to help shape the future of Downtown Mesa - bringing new businesses, activating public spaces, offering engaging events and supporting continued investment. The time for Downtown Mesa is now.”Downtown Mesa’s one square mile is home to more than 50 locally owned businesses, breweries, restaurants, and shops. The Downtown Mesa Association promotes and coordinates initiatives and events year around that include arts and culture, education, dining and more.
